Owego’s Moonlight Shopping Event is normally one night, extending business hours so everyone has a chance to hit the shops. However, this year, they will be stretching out the event over the course of six Thursdays in November and December. If you shop on one of those Thursdays, you could see a few extra perks. The winter events and season are a crucial time for small businesses. Nights when thousands flock to downtown Owego can be some of the biggest opportunities for local businesses to earn new customers. “Our goal is to take that festive cheer and holiday spirit in the shopping experience you have in Owego, spread out over a period of days,” said Crews. “We quickly realized they aren’t going to be able to take place, and if they were to take place, they wouldn’t have the same magic that they would have in previous years,” said Historic Owego Marketplace President Bradley Crews. OWEGO (WBNG) — More fall and winter events are being cancelled due to the pandemic, including a few major events in Owego. Owego’s Lights on the River and Winter Holiday Showcase have been cancelled, causing a bit of a strain on the local economy. If you shop at any of the participating locations during November and December, you will also be entered into contests for prizes from the Historic Owego Marketplace.
