Categories: Letters to the Editor, Opinion In the Nov. 1 Gazette, Margaret Nixon of Mechanicville shifts the blame from the criminals to the victim by blaming Target Sports’ lax security for the break-in where thieves stole more than 40 weapons. This is ludicrous. This is like blaming women who have been raped for bringing it upon themselves because they wore provocative clothing or walked in the park alone.Whether Ms. Nixon knows it or not, taking someone else’s property is against the law, regardless of how well or how poorly they have protected it. Criminals do not obey the law. This is why gun control laws are useless.Ms. Nixon, I suppose you also think these thieves will do a background check on the purchasers when they sell these guns on the black market? After all, a background check is required by law.George NigrinyScotiaMore from The Daily Gazette:EDITORIAL: Urgent: Today is the last day to complete the censusEDITORIAL: Beware of voter intimidationEDITORIAL: Thruway tax unfair to working motoristsSchenectady teens accused of Scotia auto theft, chase; Ended in Clifton Park crash, Saratoga Sheriff…Foss: Should main downtown branch of the Schenectady County Public Library reopen?
