first_imgAshuraDhaka metropolitan police has totally banned sharp weapons, drum beating, and playing with sticks and fire, during the Ashura, a major religious event for Shia Muslims.Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah made the announcement on Thursday, in talking to newsmen after inspecting security arrangements at the Imambara Husaini Dalan in Old Dhaka.Asaduzzaman Miah said the Tajia procession will start from the Imambara.He said Shia Muslims may participate in the procession after being checked at designated security check posts. No one will be allowed to join the procession on the way, he added.Carrying metal weapons, knives, swords, and other sharp weapons, or playing with sticks and fire, are totally banned during the Tajia procession, he added.According to the DMP commissioner, police enhanced security measures at some major points of the Imambara where the Shia community will gather to observe the Ashura (observed on the 10th of Muharram, Sunday, 1 October).The major procession from the Imambara will be monitored by closed-circuit cameras as part of security measures, said Asaduzzaman. .last_img
